Last year was incredibly fulfilling for CHEI. We enhanced programs to meet the needs of our partners, created more diversified resources and expanded our outreach across China. As we begin this new year, we are excited to welcome three new CHEI team members. With an expanded team, CHEI will continue to pursue the dream and strive to build a hospitality education community.
Now, let’s introduce our new team members!
CHEI Academic Director
Winnie Wang is responsible for the academic affairs of CHEI in China, including developing CHEI Teaching‐Learning Resources and advising on academic aspects of CHEI Regional Teaching Forums, the Annual Teaching Conference, Student and Teaching competitions, and CHEI Master Teacher and other certifications. Winnie engages CHEI Academic Advisors and Teaching Consultants (CTCs) to gain their expert input on enhancing programs to better serve and meet the needs of hospitality and tourism teachers in China. Previously, Winnie was an associate professor and dean of the Hotel Management Department at Dalian University of Finance and Economics. She received the first Outstanding Teacher Award at the inaugural CHEI Challenge student competition. Winnie is a member of the Committee of School and Enterprise Alliance of Tourism Service Industry Liaoning. Her research field is the cooperative education of hospitality industry. Winnie earned a bachelor’s degree in tourism management from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, and an MSc degree in international hospitality management from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom. Currently, she is pursuing her doctoral degree at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. Winnie is based in Dalian where she lives with her family.
CHEI Communications Specialist
Kate Liu is responsible for assisting with the development of CHEI program communications and ensuring they are China-centric and aligned with CHEI’s mission. She also plays a critical role in building relationships with schools and industry in China. Kate worked as a CHEI Teaching Consultant from September 2017 to December 2018, contributing to the design and cooperation of the CHEI Community Learning Experience course, and inspiring teachers and students with her enthusiasm for education. She authors the Kate Brainstorming teaching blog series for CHEI’s WeChat account. Previously, Kate was an advanced teacher at Shandong College of Tourism and Hospitality, teaching hospitality information technology, hospitality management and hospitality English. She was a visiting scholar at the University of Queensland, Australia and completed the International CHEI Fellows program during the fall 2016 semester at DePaul University in Chicago. Kate is a certified CHEI Master Teacher. She earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees at Shanghai Normal University.
CHEI Teaching Consultant
Dr. Kevin Wang advocates a student-centered classroom using outcome-based education (OBE). He is currently a teacher at the School of Tourism and Landscape Architecture Guilin University of Technology. Kevin’s classes include Introduction to Tourism, Tourism Study, Hospitality and Tourism Marketing. As a PhD candidate at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Kevin is studying under the well-known Professor Xie Yanjun. Kevin was awarded the overall championship of the second National Tourism Academy Quality Course Presentation Competition in May 2018. He earned his master’s degree in tourism management from Guilin University of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Shihezi University.
